I was shocked to find out while reading about self-flagellation that there are goofball catholic sects in Italy, Spain and Portugal who do this stuff too! And in the Philippines they do it to AND some even do "self-crucifixion". They call it mortification of the flesh. Here is a link

It´s their problem. If they wanna make themselves bleed, it´s ok. I think it´s stupid, but who are we to criticise.
