I understand Bush isn't trendy, sexy, or sophisticated enough for many people. While the President is not without error, his policies overall have been superior to what critics have proffered.

Also, complete books full of Bush idioms and misuses of the English language are on bookstore shelves.

One of my favorite GW quotes:

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."—May 24, 2005

While Bush says some funny and stupid things, I'm not convinced people like Nancy Pelosi would do a better job.

A recent piece of stupidity comes from Senate minority leader Harry Reid. He called the idea that English should be the national language 'racist' against hispanics. This naturally implies that one's language is determined by one's race, there is a Spanish speaking race, all people who speak Spanish belong to one race, and other conclusions that would be *hilarious* if the Democrats didn't play the race card with such predictable regularity.

Jason - Where did the cartoon or I say anything about Nancy Pelosi?

The big question is what are we going to do about the problem of illiteracy in America? Bush's improper use and abuse of the English language makes him sound like a dumbass and is only validating to the uneducated that it is just fine and dandy to be stupid and uneducated. Why have a national language when even our leaders don't know how to use it?

Bush speaks incoherently from time to time, but other politicians are putting forth incoherent ideas and silly reasonings. See Senator Reid above, for example.

I don't see why freethinking and openminded people should be obsessed with a single person.

"Why have a national language when even our leaders don't know how to use it?"

When not required by federal law, there is no affirmative right to have services offered in languages other than English. Like India, which has thousands of ethnic groups, English is the unifying language of this country. Some Democrats are not only against this, but openly promote teaching entire districts of students in Ebonics and Spanish, which is a way of keeping people down and not giving them a hand up. None of this reasoning is invalidated when a politician has difficulty with public speaking.

Because he is the leader of our country and in the most powerful position in the world. I think that is a damned good reason to expect a bit more from him.
