Taunting the radical muslims or radical muslims looking for an excuse to use violence?

I got an email from a penfriend in Germany yesterday. Here is what she wrote about the recent violence concerning the Pope's recent comments on Islam:

What do you think about that what is happening after the visite of pope Benedikt XVI. in Germany? You will heard about all demonstrations in Moslemic world because of the pope´s quotation but believe in me: He had offend NOBODY! There was no matter to react in that bad way. The event was an invitation of the university in Regensburg, was not open for everybody and the quotation was totally taken out of the other context. Since today the real text is NOT translated in other languages and not many people know of the truth but I guess there are Moslemic agitators who like to instigate moslemic folks. In Somalia were an innocent nun and a man killed from two religious fanatics. Is that nonviolant? I cannot understand that behaviour. People don´t know what happened in reality but they make trouble!!!??? I think it is not a problem of all the other world but to find in intolerance and hate of many, many uneducated (stupid!?) humans. Christian religions made many mistakes in past too but why are other doing the same? Why can people think their religion were the only beatific belief in the world? By the way, I was so that upset and shocked of such undifferent actions and dismiss that violance in name of GOD! With their demonstrations and violance they had shown that the Islam is a very aggressive religion what don´t accept other opinions and tolerance.

There is much to be gained and lost during periods of religious extremism.

In the case of christianity VS islam, religious leaders on both sides probably see turmoil and tumult as a boon which shores up the believers on each side.

The popularity of islam goes up if you are a muslim and the popularity of christianity goes up if you are a christian.

Both sides gain from this religious posturing. The potential loser is the secular state.

beepbeep - which is why I agree with those who say that religion is dangerous, and I agree with Sam Harris when he says that the moderately religious could be even more dangerous because of their lack of action, and their fear that would make them take the extremist's side.

We atheists are in the middle saying WTF?!

It's probably been translated elsewhere, but I read it here:

Context is everything. That comic is perfect.

Parge - it's amazing how people fight about their gods while these all-powerful gods remain totally silent.

It's sort of pathetic the way moronic humans duke it out over whose god delusion is real, and how they are ready to kill and die for that delusion.

It's a good thing that xians don't start killing people and burning buildings over Frenetic Wandering cartoons or George Carlin stand-up acts where he mocks gawd and xianity.

It's kind of ludicrous to demand that one delusional person apologize for insulting another group's delusions..."I am sorry I insulted your imaginary friend by saying he is violent...please stop killing nuns and burning churches now." Absurd!

Will we all have to start having our speeches and other media proofread by muslims to make sure nothing is going to insult Allah? Bullshit on that!

Please Call The Vatican Embassy In Washington, DC at (202) 333-7121 to Express Your Support!

I am not going to support one delusionist over another. Xianity and Islam are both dangerous to civilization and both have to go. But thanks for stopping by anyway.

The American left needs to stop this "everyone is the same and should be treated the same" nonsense. Islam and Christianity are not the same. I say this as an atheist.

Sure, Christianity could be violent. But atheist socialists killed over 100,000,000 people in the 1900s, but they aren't a threat today. A large minority of Muslims in the world are radicalized today, so the moderates need our support whenever they can get it and the loons should be prevented from obtaining WMDs at all costs.
