Religious idiocy abounds

Pastor Manning: Obama is the Antichrist

Pastor Manning calls those whites that voted for Obama are racist. He also refers to Obama as the Antichrist of the Bible.

jeba8888 sums it up: “Pastor Manning….You are an idiot…..You’re just another dumbass with no credentials mouthing off… I am sure you will find your share of cattle who will follow your insane messages”

Unfortunately, what jeba8888 says is true…the world is full of unthinking, human cattle.

Here is Frank Shaeffer speaking out against this sort of thinking on the Rachel Maddow Show. Surprisingly, Frank Shaeffer is a god believing Baptist who condemns the extremism of many of this fellow believers. Listening to him in this video, you might get the impression that he really is an atheist in disguise. I am sure he is being accused of this by the Christian fundamentalist extremists he is condemning.

Here’s the video

In his book Crazy for God, Frank says he converted to Greek Orthodox...unless something changed since then?

I didn't know that, Andrea. Thanks for that info.

Oh, and Andrea I just checked and our library has Crazy for God, can you believe it? In this town of "Proud Americans" (our town slogan), sometimes it's hard to find books like this in the public library but I found God is not Great both in book and audio CD and all of Dawkins' books, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, etc.

We only have a tiny volunteer library where I live and I haven't visited it yet. I usually find good deals on used books through Amazon, or I just comb through the nearest Half Price Books.

I think I'll get around to reading Hitchens in the near future...after Halloween though - at this time of year, I like my literary frights to be of the purely fictional variety.

Andrea, I buy a lot of books via Amazon...they have some pretty good second-hand deals. I find them under five dollars often.

So you like horror stories? I have Stephen King's Lisey's Story to listen to on the road when we visit my daughter next week. Hubby has Tim Russert's book on CD too.

That's funny, I just went to the Library today and got some movies but forgot to get that very same book! Crazy for God.
