Yay - I love Mr. Bean! Have you seen the clip where he's a minister or whatever and he's reading from the bible and it starts talking about what a great magician jesus is? I wonder if it's on youtube somewhere.
I agree with you, Stardust, the boredom of church was extreme. The Mormon Sunday church service is THREE HOURS LONG. And on top of that it is taught by amateur volunteers! It has to be the most painfully boring thing I've ever experienced, and I did it every Sunday for 18 or so years! I know you feel sorry for me. It's no wonder I'm so angsty about religion.
Hey Danica, I went with my Mormon friend to her church a couple times. I didn't know they weren't even allowed to clap! Stimulating it was not.
danica - And I thought Lutheran communion was long! (It can extend service by half an hour or more every other Sunday in the Missouri Synod Church!) I can't imagine having to sit in a church serice for three hours and then to only be led by a bunch of people who dont know anything more than I do. That is what I started to realize about any pastor in a pulpit...here is a guy telling me how to live who is no more "moral" than I am...and all too often, far less moral than I am! Many times these pastors/volunteers have the limited intelligence of a monkey.
andrea, one thing that really bugged me about going to church was the "genie request time" of selfish beggary (phrased coined by fellow blogger JD Hurf) when people say out loud their prayer requests and kids even asked for their stuffed toys to be prayed for. It was ridiculous! Then those who are pity party lovers would think up all kinds of things to make people feel sorry for them and turn the attention to themselves...like "my neighbor's neighbor's friend's husband's second cousin's daughter's baby has colic...please pray for him." Those with real problems usually kept it to themselves.
I especially feel sorry for all the kids who are forced to sit through church services and made to be silent and threatened with punishment if they are not quiet. I feel sorry for the little ones who cry and are taken out and spanked...yes, it does happen...and then brought back in with tears in their eyes and sit sniffling in unnecessary torture.
My sisters church is pretty crazy...speaking in tongues and stuff! ewww! Mr. Bean is cool.
