MWC 922: The Red Square Nebula

This is incredibly cool!

Credit & Copyright: Peter Tuthill (Sydney U.) and James Lloyd (Cornell )

Explanation: What could cause a nebula to appear square? No one is quite sure. The hot star system known as MWC 922, however, appears to be imbedded in a nebula with just such a shape. The above image combines infrared exposures from the Hale Telescope on Mt. Palomar in California, and the Keck-2 Telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. A leading progenitor hypothesis for the square nebula is that the central star or stars somehow expelled cones of gas during a late developmental stage. For MWC 922, these cones happen to incorporate nearly right angles and be visible from the sides. Supporting evidence for the cone hypothesis includes radial spokes in the image that might run along the cone walls. Researchers speculate that the cones viewed from another angle would appear similar to the gigantic rings of supernova 1987A, possibly indicating that a star in MWC 922 might one day itself explode in a similar supernova.

Well, it's obvious God did it!

Star, I finally got some negative comments from a couple of pissed off Catholics to my April Fools post. Only took them about two and a half weeks.

That's because they probably thought you weren't going to be around to respond since you posted you are taking off from blogging for awhile.

tommy, you should see all the delusionists at Atheist Revolution discussing how "goddidit" after looking at my blog. LOLOL!!

They think just seeing a sparkly pretty is all the evidence they need...because they are either delusional, too afraid to seek for answers and question their instilled beliefs, or just too lazy to investigate and reseach for themselves.

Stardust,

I'm over there at Atheist Revolution. Bdawg is about to move me to profanity. It's like arguing against a wall because he can't see past the God of the Gaps argument.

Alpha, I am trying to figure out if he is just that stupid, playing stupid or just trying to get a rise out of everyone. A troll. If he was on my blog, I would ban his ass after awhile because he isnt being reasonable at all. He is trying to hammer his own agenda, and will not listen to anyone else, and in my book, that is proseltyzing. He is either at vjack's blog to proseltyze or antagonize...either way he is a pain in the ass.

All the information I have here, all the links supply hours and hours of reading...and could lead to even days if one follows the NASA site links and starts looking into other sites. He is just a troll or a lazy ass xian who just wants his easy and simple fantasy.

It's a blown up image of a halogen light on the front of a truck that is going "roo spotting". You can't fool me.

And gawd put those roos there so we could go "bush bashing" on a saturday night full of piss and bad manners.

The halogen light is just a symbol of gawd's desire for us to see those roos in the dark.

(It is so easy to think like a theist - I am ashamed of myself.)

beep - that's awesome! LOL!

Looks like a cross to me. But I've always had a small paranoia when it comes to Christers.

But you didn't answer his perfectly reasonable question, Stardust! How can you deny that a loving grandpappy on a cloud handmade that purty twinkling star? *rolling eyes* LOL

Shit, that guy is one dense jerkoff.

andrea, I haven't come across anyone so obstinate in blogland in many moons.

Bdawg has given me crap before on that site...awhile ago...I forget what it was about as I generally don't bother with such idiots.

I'm actually related (by marriage) to a fairly notorious figure in the evolution vs. ID/creationism debate, so I know about hardheaded people. They suck.

bdawg doesn't even read anything. He is just a proseltyzing troll. I wonder when he has time for his sky daddy prayers when he is blogging so much.

Cool Picture!

stardust, what the heck did I do to get these trolls all of the sudden? Do you guys think I should start banning?

Stardust said...

vjack, I would definitely ban bdawg. He is an obvious troll. I won't respond to him anymore. I definitely would not allow him to pollute my blog with his persistent turds.

Let me guess Andrea, he works for the Discovery Institute?

I would guess it is either some quirk with the camera lens, or some extraterrestrials in another part of the galaxy are messing around with us.

P.S. Star, I got pulled over again by the police this morning! I updated my Public Enemy post.

No, but it's something just as dumb. It's really strange to me though...because I know him in real life, I would've thought he was smarter than that.

Stardust said...

tommy, no way! They have your number or what? NY is a Nazi state, I tell ya!

Stardust said...

tommy, since I read your update, my opinion has softened a teeny bit that NY is a Nazi state...I guess it depends on who the cop is and what kind of a day he is having...or if he is concerned with meeting his quota at the momnent. Maybe you should take a taxi for awhile? ;-)
