I love this cartoon because its just so true.
Yep, what more can we want? Just to have been able to experience what we have in whatever time we have here is enough for me. It's just truly magnificent. Those who cry for more or wish for more remind me of the little kids at the end of the day at an amusement park kicking and screaming not to let it end because they are not mature enough to be glad for the wonderful time they had and be thankful.
The universe isn't enough for me either Stardust. For me life is about relationships. For me everything culminates in a Person.
Without that I have no one ultimately to be thankful to. I can't say thank you to the universe. It's not personal.
People would be happier if they would just be glad to just be here and stop trying to relate their existence to being "created" or "indebted" to something. I can be happy with just the awesomeness of what I know is in front of me.
When we stop thinking about "me" and focus on the all, then we will find serenity and peace in ourselves.
What do you mean focus on the all?
By focus on the "all" I mean everything around us in the here and now. Not just looking at "us" all the time. Too many people are so busy focusing on themselves that they lose sight of everything else, everything beautiful -- basically nature. I fine peace and tranquility by just listening to the little birds sing, for example. I feel down or whatever, I just watch the birds, feel the breeze on my face, etc. I also like other people, I find people fascinating. When we look outside ourselves, and realize that we are part of a whole big world and universe and are here for just a very short amount of time, we are able to appreciate what is in the here and now while we exist.
Oh in that case I also focus on the all. But I also don't have any hope without life after death. Security from the grave is what gives me hope. For me life is ultimately pointless without life after death. That's what makes me the most happiest and want to keep on keeping on. I just can't believe that it's all for nothing anymore. I'm getting my hope back.
Star,
It just doesn't make any sense to me that this universe is all there is. I can't rap my mind arround it. I've tried.
Stardust,
I can't believe this universe came from nothing. But I can believe that one powerful enough to create a universe might have plans too complex for us to fathom that somehow make some kind of sense out of the state we find the world in.
The universe obviously didn't come from nothing. It was something...things that have always been but doesn't mean there is a god involved. It just means that since all we humans experience here on Earth is a beginning and end to things, that there had to be a beginning. Why is it more difficult to believe that these elements have always existed, that energy has always existed than to believe that some supernatural being has always existed? It's easier for people to wrap their brains around a god image because that is what we know from our own experience (we come from parents). Humans cannot grasp things beyond their own experience. Gods are created in the image of humans according to what they know from experience.
And if you need to believe in a supernatural being to keep going in this life, then that is your freedom to believe what you choose, what makes sense to you. But for me, this world is enough and it is logical that things cannot last forever. Otherwise the world and the universe would be jam-packed...not enough resources to support everything. The cycle of life and I am glad that I have been a part of it for however long I am. I am glad to have lived at all. Many never get the chance to even get out of infancy or childhood.
If there was a god, and afterlife was such value and ultimate goal, then it would make sense that this god would have created all things everlasting right away, no games.
If there was a heaven, it's pretty freakin crowded! BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of ghosts kissing the feet of a conceited and jealous god for all eternity...that sounds more like hell to me.
I would rather believe in reincarnation if I were to try to believe in anything. But even that would end some day when the sun explodes into a red giant and engulfs the first few planets, including Earth and even our Solar System will be no more. So, where is this "heaven" anyway?
Must be happy in the hear and now, because that is all we can be certain of.
Star,
I know it doesn't make any sense to you. I don't believe in an egotistical, jealous God.
Also, I believe that you are perfectly rational in what you believe. It seems reasonable to you and I'm not out to convince you otherwise. I just enjoy your company and enjoy talking to you and I think you have some very good points.
I'm just tossing out there what I believe and why. But I do realize that other people come to other conclusions which make sense to them.
Did you happen to catch the History Channel program on Ancient Aliens? Now THAT gives us something to really think about. You can see the whole programs at the History Channel.com
To me God is more like a female. I can't figure her out just like I can't figure women out. :)
No I might check that out.
