Star Trek 2009 - Four Stars

I was a kid when the first television Star Trek series came out and my brothers and sister and I watched every episode. Then we watched again when it went into syndication. I became a fan also of Next Generation, but couldn't get into Voyager or the one with Scott Bakula after that. But I did like the films with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. Nothing can beat the original cast, and I was very pleased with this new film version because the casting department took such great care to hire actors who could express the same character traits as the originals. We knew who each one was before they even identified themselves.

The CGI is awesome in this film. My favorite scene was when all the Star Fleet ships were in space dock getting ready to head off to most of their fates. I won't give any more away in case some of you haven't seen it yet, but I highly recommend this film to all Trekkies, and those who are interested in sci-fi and Star Trek films. This is one we plan on buying in Blu-Ray for our personal collection.

Wow. this looks like it might be pretty good. I haven't ever seen any of the Star Trek movies before but I think I'll check this one out. I was always a fan of Star Wars.

*Really* didn't like it..

Why didn't you like it? I think you are the first person I know who has seen it who doesn't. I thought it was great, captured all the personality of the original characters, lots of action, the special effects were awesome. I wasn't bored at all, and usually I get bored at some time during a sci-fi movie.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hated it - but it got pretty close.

It's not just that they f****d with the storyline - to say nothing about the timeline - but that the plot (such as it was) was *so* contrived as to be laughable. Sure the CGI was good - as we have come to expect - but the level of acting and the whole 'feel' of the movie actually appalled me.

When we left the movie theatre the guys (who pretty much uniformly liked it) looked to me for my opinion. For more than a minute I was incapable of giving one being (almost) speechless.

I'm struggling to think of *any* redeaming features......

cyberkitten, LOL! Wow, you really did hate it! LOL!

I thought it was pretty good, all-in-all.I thoroughly enjoyed it for the sci-fi action flick that it was. The cameo by Leonard Nimoy was very cool...didn't like Scottie's little alien sidekick though. I thought that was lame. I hate cutsie alien sidekicks. I thought the acting was pretty good, like I said the characters, the comments that were used in the original television show...right up to the original Star Trek theme at the end. My brothers are die-hard Trekkies so will be waiting to hear what they think about it.

Latest ratings at RottenTomatoes.com for Star Trek 96% Fresh...and here is what they say

"Consensus: Star Trek reignites a classic franchise with action, humor, a strong story, and brilliant visuals, and will please traditional Trekkies and new fans alike."

That's OK. I'm used to being of a minority opinion... [laughs]

;) LOL!
It's only a movie. Like it or no like it....right?

Of course..... I either tend not to take things too seriously or very seriously for a very short time.

I'm almost over the experience now.

Looking forward to Terminator: Salvation to take my mind off it.... [grin]

I hate Terminator movies. :P
But am looking forward to the special effects of the next Transformers. Do you like Transformer flicks?

I really liked the Terminator movies - even the 3rd one. I liked the TV Series too.

The 1st Transformers movie certainly had its moments and had very good set-pieces. It was a pity about the acting in-between though... [grin]

Although I'm not exactly looking forward to the 2nd movie I'll more than likely see it with 'the guys'. It looks entertaining enough for a student ticket... [laughs]

I will probably go see the Terminator movie with my husband since he goes along seeing films that I want to see. It's fun just to get out.

I agree about the piss poor or even non-existent acting in Transformers. I just like the cool graphics and the way the cars transform into robots. When our boys were little they had a crapload of Transformers (which they still own and have collected even more as adults) and I could never completely change them...I would hand it to a son who was age 5 or so at the time and they would transform them with ease.
