How many Christians would choose a faith-only hospital over medical science?

Vjack at Atheist Revolution has pointed us to an excellent post titled Faith Hospital by Alonzo Fyfe at Atheist Ethicist. To look at the potential conflict between religion and science, Mr Fyfe imagines two hospitals: One hospital is the Institute for Scientific Medicine which is scientifically-based, and its cross-town rival is Faith Hospital which relies on scripture and prayer rather than science. Given the choice, how many Christians would select this hospital over the scientifically-based hospital if given the choice? Vjack, and I recommend everyone taking the time to read this very thought-provoking essay.

Cool graphic. You are way more creative than I am!

vjack...thanks. I worked as a graphic artist for years and have education in fine arts, as well. I draw, paint, and graphic/computer art and design. I haven't worked in it for awhile now since getting my Masters in English and teaching/scoring exams/writing for a living...so can't help myself with playing around with the graphics and color in most things I do. I am one of those people who must be doodling all the time. :-)

In debating with some fundies online, I often ask them what choice they would make in the following hypothetical scenario:

A close family member has to undergo complicated heart surgery. You get to choose between the best heart surgeon in America, who happens to be an atheist, or a recent med school graduate who is a Bible believing Christian. Which surgeon do you choose?

The several people I have tried this scenario on say that of course they would pick the most experienced surgeon.

tommy, that is always the answer I get too when asking similar questions. They hate atheists, but when it comes to living or dying they will ask an atheist to save their life before they would rely on their god.

tommy -- of course they will say that gawd sent the more experienced surgeon to them. arrrrgggghhhhh!!!! (pulls hair!)

Yeah, with fundies, you have to admit they have a hell of a defense mechanism. Everything can just be explained away as God's will if they are unable to explain it in a logical way.

Stardust, the blog update wasn't as bad as I'd feared. I only hit one minor snag and was able to find a workaround fairly quickly. It will take me more time to get it exactly how I want, but I am finished with the basic overhaul.

vjack...does this entail a lot of re-doing of sidebar links, etc? I am paranoid about it.
