Pope says other Christians not true churches

It's the point we atheists make all the time!!! One sect of Christians think they have it right and all other Christians are not "real" Christians and we are supposed to listen to all of them when they can't even decide amongst themselves what it is to be a "true Christian". From the atheist perspective, it all looks kind of crazy ass watching them all fight over who's mythology is reality.

LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the universal primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches.

*snip*

It restates key sections of a 2000 document the pope wrote when he was prefect of the congregation, "Dominus Iesus," which set off a firestorm of criticism among Protestant and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation."

In the new document and an accompanying commentary, which were released as the pope vacations here in Italy's Dolomite mountains, the Vatican repeated that position.

I don't know about you guys, but my agnosticism is the one TRUE agnosticism .... or something like that.
You would think these buggers would learn how to be civil to each other by now, no?

greg and joe, All we can do is sit on the sidelines and watch in amusement. Maybe this would make a good reality television show?

You would think that if their god really did exist that this all-powerful being would make this message of life and death nice and clear for everyone instead of making them play "guess which is the true religion!"

The thing is that all Christian denominations make it up as they go along, and make changes to suit themselves on the whims of their own needs and desires. Most other religions do the same thing. None can get along and the fighting over who holds the truth about their god ideas keeps dividing and turning people against one another.

Well, when you think about it, what else can the Pope really be expected to say? The Catholic Church is basically in competition with other Christian denominations. It would be like the head of Walmart telling customers, "You can probably get just as good a value shopping at Target as you do with us."

The RC's need to fill those pews so that the collection plates can keep on collecting!
