The Universe within 50000 Light Years - The Milky Way Galaxy
Interesting information from The Atlas of the Universe. This website provides fascinating facts, illustrations and images about what the universe and our galaxy actually looks like. Click on images to enlargeNumber of stars within 50 000 light years = 200 billion This map shows the full extent of the Milky Way galaxy - a spiral galaxy of at least two hundred billion stars. Our Sun is buried deep within the Orion Arm about 26 000 light years from the centre. Towards the centre of the Galaxy the stars are packed together much closer than they are where we live. Notice also the presence of small globular clusters of stars which lie well outside the plane of the Galaxy, and notice too the presence of a nearby dwarf galaxy - the Sagittarius dwarf - which is slowly being swallowed up by our own galaxy.

infinite...go flame bait somewhere else.
(Or else go and respond to the questions and statements directed to you in the UFO post.)
Stardust I wasn't flaming anything I was just making a comment.
Would you like me to respond to the comment where I was refered to as a glory hole?
Then why make a "god did it" comment like that on an atheist blog?
ONE person called you that because you were not responding to counter arguments except to copy and paste things from other arguments on other blogs. You are focusing on that to distract us from the fact that you have no good counter-argument and no evidence for the existence of your god?
You are totally ignoring the issues that have been presented to you there by KA, cyperkitten, and others.
Stardust I didn't copy and paste anything from another blog. That was me who wrote those things. I've already answered those objections in what I already said.
I was the one who wrote those things on the other blog I mean.
Nevertheless, you copy and pasted your argument from another argument you had before...with much information copy and pasted from creationist website (google is good for finding word-for-word plagiarized material).
You have not yet responded to the counter-arguments against your copy and pasted posts.
You still have not given scientific evidence and data to prove the existence for the god you believe is real.
You condemn people for believing life can exist elsewhere in the universe based on evidence scientists have found, yet you yourself believes in an invisible supernatural creator without any evidence whatsoever.
Stardust I didn't copy that from a creationist website. Regardless, facts are facts. And it's something you just can't deal with.
Stardust I already showed you that the universe had to be created by an outside agent as the space-time theorem implies.
Facts are facts? You have proven nothing. You can't even explain in your own words how to apply the information you have gathered.
You want to talk about facts? Where are the "facts" that prove the existence of your invisible creator?
Infinite...you have not anywhere near provided evidence for the existence of a god. The information you have provided does not prove that life cannot exist anywhere else in the universe. And as outofcontrol pointed out, you are using Earth and life as we know it for your control.
You obviously are not interested in the counter-arguments in the UFO thread here, as you were not interested in continuing the debate at Debunking Christianity once your so-called "evidence" was debunked over there. Therefore, there is nothing more to discuss with you if you cannot come up with a response to those who directed questions and comments to you.
Infinite, I am moving your latest copy and paste effort to the appropriate thread...the UFO discussion thread.
Stardust would youlike for me to show you a copy of the corollary of the space time theorem of general relativity and prove it to you? I have it right here.
Infinite, that will not prove that life cannot exist on other planets, and it cannot prove that your god exists.
It will prove that the universe was created by an outside nonphysical agent and then we can move from there.
It's really amazing how you try to attack peoples character and person instead of the facts.
Why are you putting what Strauss said on the UFO board? We haven't arrived there yet.
IG...other people have presented arguments against your facts, which you choose to ignore, and now you have turned on your persecution complex to detract from the fact that you just want to copy and paste from creationist sources, but have no rebuttal for the counter-argument...as for the UFO thread, you have bailed out.
I'm refering to the space-time theorem of general relativity and how it shows that the universe was created by an outside agent. Why are you so hesitent to accept the fact that the universe was created?
Theorem...theory.
Why are YOU so hesitant to go back to the UFO thread and answer questions and counterpoints directed at you there? Why are you so hesitant to even consider that you are probably wrong in your assumptions. You have added a large dose of wishful thinking to your collected creation-influenced "evidence".
IG...further comments about this subject will be cut and pasted to the proper UFO/existence of sky daddy thread.
Theorem is a proven statement
Well, Gloryhole and Strauss are apparently lazy when it comes to Hawking.
It just so happens that on my vacation I read "God The Failed Hypothesis" by Victor Stenger. On page 122, Stenger writes "In 1970 cosmologist Stephen Hawking and mathematician Roger Penrose, using a theorem derived earlier by Penrose, "proved" that a singularity exists at the beginning of time."
"However, Hawking has repudiated his own earlier proof. In his best seller A Brief History of Time, he avers, "There was in fact no singularity at the beginning of the universe." This revised conclusion, concurred with by Penrose, follows from quantum mechanics, the theory of atomic processes that was developed in the years following the introduction of Einstein's theory of relativity."
Stenger continues on page 126, "While he avoided technical details in a Brief History of Time, the no boundary model was the basis of Hawking's oft-quoted statement 'So long as the universe had a beginning we could suppose it had a creator. But if the universe is really completely self-contained, having no boundary or edge, it would have neither beginning nor end; it would simply be. What place then for a creator?"
Infinite, when you are talking about space-time, you are talking about theories.
These "theories" ...or whatever you want to call it do not provide proofs for the existence that the universe was created. You are making an assumption based on your own personal desires to believe in something there is no evidence for. Again, you are only making assumptions and are influenced much by creationist propaganda.
Wow, Star! IG just doesn't give up, does s/he...
My big question is this: why does an omnipotent/all-powerful-ruler need "rescue"? Why can't he fight his own battles, single-handedly? A puny man of Earth is going to do something he can't? WTF?
Tedious, tiresome, boring, sometimes dangerous (especially where abortion and homosexuality are concerned). Yes.
Knowledgeable about science. Not so much. They tend to quote from their mendacious apologists and faux scientists (Ken Ham, felon Kent Hovind and some chiropractor in England) just as easily as they quote from their BronzeAge febrile book. It never occurs to them that leaving the StoneAge behind was as appropriate as leaving the BronzeAge behind because it is what progress is about.
Intelligence leads to knowledge, which enriches intelligence - and so on. To stay mired in folklore from twenty-sixty centuries ago is to be left behind, while civilization moves forward. How ironic! We're not really the ones that will be left behind! So delicious!
All because they're afraid of death. How sad...
naomi, I am really fed up with people like infinite who only want to come by not to engage in discourse and exchange ideas with others, but to tell us their imagined version of "the truth".
I have a feeling IG is quite young and is believing everything someone else is spoonfeeding into his brain.
These god believers sure are obsessed with blogland. I guess their god just isn't enough company for them.
