Sending the wrong message

These Answers in Genesis people really piss me off. In this very brief video the message they are conveying is that if you don’t have God, just go ahead and shoot people! And a KID no less! Unfuckingbelievable! No wonder we have so many yahoos going around shooting people when their god never shows up! It’s what they are taught.

I'm not about to click on that bullshit, but it does remind me of when I told a xtian friend that I had become an atheist and I was asked what prevents me from committing murder - they always go straight to the worst thing they can think of, right? - and I'm like "well now, what the fuck is there to prevent YOU from murdering when you can ask for forgiveness the second the victim's heart stops beating, and you'll be forgiven!"

People suck.

Andrea, that was a great response to that person. What's to prevent them from doing bad stuff when they can just so easily be forgiven for the bad crap they do? And they believe they can be forgiven again and again and again and that there is nothing bad enough they can do that their god won't forgive them for.

But seriously, what a lot of these theists can't seem to comprehend is that a big part of the journey of those of us who were once believers to atheism was that the God of the Bible didn't measure up to the standards of morality that Christianity purported to offer.

"Do not murder, but it's okay if god kills people."

When I finally admitted to myself, "Hey, I'm an atheist", it's not like I suddenly thought to myself, "Hey, now I can go out and do whatever the fuck I feel like, rob, steal, rape, and murder!"

Rather, the only real change I had was towards issues such as gays, as my antipathy towards them was grounded in a belief that what they were doing was an abomination in the eyes of god.
