Expanding Bush's faith-based programs? Eeeghads!

This pisses me off. I thought we would see LESS of this crap in government if the Dems regain control, and NEVER expected to see more of this bullcrap from a liberal Democrat.

I am disappointed and disillusioned.

Link: Obama to expand Bush’s faith based programs

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - Reaching out to religious voters, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama called for expanding President Bush’s program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups and — in a move sure to cause controversy — supported some ability to hire and fire based on faith

I am a registered Independent, have been since I first registered more than three decades ago. This term, I am writing in my vote for someone.

I would LOVE to be able to vote for the Democratic candidate, but am not going to do so simply for the sake of the party…a party that has been so wishy-washy and wimpy and cannot even stand up to the Bush administration. I will not vote for McCain who is just as wishy-washy and flip-floppin' as Obama. Who the hell are these candidates? Really?

And voting for someone else is not throwing my vote away. I will be voting my conscience.

Change my ass. He hasn't done anything to even propose change in his time as senator. The only thing he has been changing is his mind. I can't understand liberals who once were against faith-based initiatives to now have jumped on the faith-based wagon train and support an expansion of a Bush administration program, one that they totally condemned. supported new electronic surveillance rules for the government’s eavesdropping program, saying “an important tool in the fight against terrorism will continue,” after opposing a similar bill last year. That’s a big deal. And now he is dragging his feet on the war in Iraq. He has gone from hard-edged, vocal opposition to calls for a phased-out troop “drawdown” that could last at least 16 months. (He has been against the war but did nothing to try to stop the war.) That bugs me. Obama is in favor of continuing a trampling of our rights and supporting religious organizations with our tax dollars and now will need continued or even more diligent watchdogging. How is this change?

Simple answer Star. They can't stand the idea of the other party having the program. But once they get the power, they are perfectly happy to use it for their purposes.

The Republicans did the same thing with Bill Clinton's Americorps program. The Republicans in Congress kept denouncing it and calling for it to be terminated. But Bush has been president for almost 8 years now, and Americorps is still around.

I can. I explained it on my blog.

"The Republicans did the same thing"

They've been doing the same with much worse than that, including the Big Three -- social security, Medicare, and the Department of Education. I give Bush some credit for at least discussing giving people the chance to opt out of ss.

Yep, I'm one of those pissed off supporters of Obama (and still a supporter considering the competition). But it is getting harder to support Obama, no doubt about it. Supposedly he's just trying to woo the dumb-fucks that believe in the "almighty" from the place where dumb-fucks usually vote - repuglican.

Still, it reeks no matter how ya try to defend it. I do have to say that if he continues to cowtow to the repuglican values of "faith", I just might not vote at all.

Or maybe I'll write in Stardust in the election!!

No thanks, greg! I sure wouldn't want that job. Like I said in a comment in another post, the next person to take over is going to have one huge mess to clean up!

I agree with you Stardust. I liked Obama until finally his decision to continue the illegal "faith based bullshit" has soured me on him. Its too bad, I was snookered into him for a while but not now.

joe, I would love nothing more than to vote for a candidate from Illinois, and my hometown of Chicago, however I cannot. There are so many things that can be pulled out about his past dealings, but he seems to be like Teflon Man...nothing sticks to him. People are afraid of being called a racist for criticizing him.
