Apparently Ms Davis forgets what this state and country was founded on...Separation of church and state. Maybe she needs to go back to school and take some more government classes.
Text:
Davis: I don’t know what you have against God, but some of us don’t have much against him. We look forward to him and his blessings. And it’s really a tragedy — it’s tragic — when a person who is engaged in anything related to God, they want to fight. They want to fight prayer in school. I don’t see you (Sherman) fighting guns in school. You know?Like I said, apparently Ms Davis needs to go back to school for some refresher courses in U.S. Government .I’m trying to understand the philosophy that you want to spread in the state of Illinois. This is the Land of Lincoln. This is the Land of Lincoln where people believe in God, where people believe in protecting their children.… What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous, it’s dangerous–
Sherman: What’s dangerous, ma’am?
Davis: It’s dangerous to the progression of this state. And it’s dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists! Now you will go to court to fight kids to have the opportunity to be quiet for a minute. But damn if you’ll go to [court] to fight for them to keep guns out of their hands. I am fed up! Get out of that seat!
Sherman: Thank you for sharing your perspective with me, and I’m sure that if this matter does go to court—
Davis: You have no right to be here! We believe in something. You believe in destroying! You believe in destroying what this state was built upon.

Somebody mail that lady a copy of Paine's "Age of Reason".
With all of the attention focused on the Religious Right in this country, it is easy to overlook that there is a segment of the African-American community that while generally liberal in its politics, takes its church-going and Bible-thumpin' very seriously. Ms. Davis sounds a lot like Karen Hunter on Paula Zahn's show last year claiming that atheists "believe in nothing."
Let's not forget the context. Representative Davis was responding to Sherman's questioning about Democrat Governor Rod Blagojevich giving $1,000,000.00 in grant money to Pilgrim Baptist Church.
The money went to an unrelated private religious school that is opening downtown. Even more outrageous, Comrade Blagojevich is promising to shell out another $1,000,000.00 of our money, hoping it will go to Pilgrim Baptist Church this time.
Democrats are all talk about the separation of church and state. As Reverend Wright illustrates, you can be as political as you want in Church as long you have the magic (D) next to your name.
If we Republicans were doing this stuff, we'd never hear the end of it, both from the media and the IRS.
Correction-- the Loop Lab School on 300N Michigan does not appear to be a religious school. Nevertheless, no effort was made by Springfield to recover the funds sent to the wrong place. Blagojevich says his fuckup is for the best since it was for the children. He's smart to say that too -- the moron Oprah crowd always eats up stuff about "kids."
Well, you just proved that the dems do NOT push funding for religious schools, while repugs do. And - please don't try to tell me that the repugs don't fund shady deals.
Both sides of the aisle are corrupt, but at least most of the dems believe in separation of church and state. At least you don't see the dems shoving their beliefs up everyone's butt about what Americans do with their bodies.
Starry - lol - you are so right. At first she sounded a bit reasonable, but near the end - lawd have mercy - she's nuts!
I embarrassed that Screamin meemie Monique is a dem.
She sounds scared and threatened. In her world, I bet that it never occured to her that there could be reasonable people that don't believe in God. I'm sure she's one of the many that believe that atheists are amoral and the root of all evil.
the Land of Lincoln where people believe in God
It will probably come as a shock to Rep. Dumbass that Lincoln did not share her views. Not even remotely. Why here's a snipet of the infidel's views on religion and Christianity.
You know, if you're going to invoke the name of a great leader, you might want to verify they'd be in your camp. Idiot.
(and yes I know "Land of Lincoln" is a state motto, but my point still stands)
Love this part from the link you posted, Spirula
"No man had a stronger or firmer faith in Providence -- God -- than Mr. Lincoln, but the continued use by him late in life of the word God must not be interpreted to mean that he believed in a personal God. In 1854, he asked me to erase the word God from a speech I had written and read to him for criticism, because my language indicated a personal God, whereas he insisted that no such personality ever existed."
