We knew this was going to happen. This is what religious folks don’t understand why separation of church and state is important. In fairness to all religions, if Christians symbols are allowed on government and public property, all religions are going to want theirs’ placed there too. Christians symbols should not be allowed…then everyone else will not have a reason to cry that their oogie boogie beliefs are being discriminated against.

Utah Religious Group Seeks To Place Its ‘Seven Aphorisms’ Beside The Ten Commandments
The U.S. Supreme Court announced today that it will hear a Utah dispute that centers on the display of religious symbols on public property.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State said the case brings the high court back into a confusing and controversial area of constitutional law.
Pleasant Grove City v. Summum deals with a religious group called Summum, which sought to erect its “Seven Aphorisms” alongside a Ten Commandments monument in a public park in Pleasant Grove, Utah. The group said city officials cannot constitutionally approve the Commandment display while excluding other monuments.
A federal appeals court agreed, holding that it violates freedom of speech for government to allow one group’s message on public property and exclude another.
“If government creates an open forum, it can’t pick and choose among religions,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. “Government officials could have avoided this controversy by refusing to put up the Ten Commandments in the first place.”

I agree with ya, Starry.
And just as you said somewhere in your blog, thats what happens with this christers. They believe that their religion alone is the right one, so they don't want any other religion plastered in public property. Its amazing that they can't see the double standard!
Hi Greg, can you imagine what the courthouse lawns would look like if every religion wanted to be fairly represented? Eeeeghads! It would be so bizarre!
I hope they win. Fair's fair. And it would just be funny. Americans love to be represented, right? Or are some animals more equal than others?
These seven aphorisms don't sound any goofier than the mythology we all know is socially acceptable in the States.
Ha! What's the phrase? Can o' Worms?
Anyway, I'm irritated that none of them can get the first commandment right.
Speaking of "asking for it", this was bound to be written.
(A classic, truly a classic)
Greg, how about reviving some of those pagan cults that worshipped phallic symbols? Those would make interesting displays!
It'd be great if Scientology wanted equal space. LOL! A statue of L.Ron or maybe Tom Cruise?
spirula, that was indeed a classic!

That might just go along with the voyeurism of an imaginary being who watches everything we do...including ummm...you know.
Actually...phallic symbols make more sense to worship along with those fertility goddesses since life cannot come about without
sex organs. It would be hilarious if people wanted to start displaying these things, too. I bet that would bring allowing religious symbols on public property to a screeching halt.

Well, there is always this.

Well, if you have ever glanced at my site, you'd know that I'd be all in favor of something like that!! LOL
