I see that today Feb 15 that Cheney admitted his sole responsibility for the accidental shooting of his friend in this hunting accident.
If this were a regular citizen, he or she would be facing several charges right now.
After reading this post by Alonzo Fyfe at Atheist Ethicist, and rethinking this whole shooting thing, I will admit that we don't know the facts about what happened and it's easy to become biased against someone whose policies we do not agree with politically. Cheney made an admittedly stupid mistake while hunting. He has stated his reasons for not hanging around to talk to police immediately afterwards. We can make assumptions, but Mr Fyfe makes some good points about assuming something about someone without knowing all the facts in his Feb 16th post:

I must say, however, in chicagoland when one shoots someone else even by accident it is a big deal and the shooter can get in all kinds of trouble for doing so, and also for not immediately reporting the incident and leaving the scene of the accidental shooting. By leaving the scene and not allowing interviews gives the impression of being guilty of something. Shootings happen all too often in urban America so we have a whole different attitude about guns than people in rural areas do.
